The goal of this series of unusual workshops is to teach the advanced photographer how to use her/his camera with more control in a more creative way by experimenting with various topics in diverse circumstances: from very long exposure time to very fast shutter speed, from burst of studio flash to constant movie lighting. You will discover professional techniques and original methodologies to build up your own mood by precisely controlling lighting (modeling and portrait). With your camera, you will also record phenomenon invisible to your eyes (high speed and painting with light). The class is covering special effects and advanced post production tips and techniques for you to get an overall vision of the extraordinary things you can achieve with your camera. During the 10 weeks, you will also get feedback on your own work as the course contains one outdoor session and two picture reviews to complete this great experience.

Advanced Photography Workshop (APW)

Who is concerned?

This course is adapted to all students who followed the Essential Photography Class (EPC). Some advanced photographers are willing to join this class directly, but according my 9 years experience, I know that they are often missing something important we had reviewed during our Essential Photography program.

What does this class cover?

This class is a series of workshops designed for you to discover how extreme and diverse your camera can be in terms of set up, effect and subject. With this course you are going to discover high speed, long exposure, painting with light, modeling with flash, portrait with movie light and advanced Photoshop post treatment. Your camera will no longer be the center of the teaching as light set up, composition and imagination are going to take over.

What equipment do you need?

You just need a Digital camera with its zoom lens. You also need a bright prime lens for portrait such as 45mmf1.8 for M4/3, 50mm f1.8 for DX, or 85mm f1.8 for FX. If you are not sure, contact me prior to the class. You don’t need a flash but a tripod can be handy.

How long does the program last?

10 weeks = 25 hours total with 1 class every week. Each class lasts 2 hours and 30 minutes.

How many students per class?

8 – 10 students

How much does the course cost?

Teaching fee: 3500 RMB per student + Material fee: 800 RMB. Total: 4300 RMB.

Material fee includes equipment, accessories, make up artist (x1), model (x1) and assistant.

What is the payment procedure?

1300 RMB deposit for enrolment at least 1 month before class starts (bank transfer: information will be sent by contacting me by email)

3000 RMB final payment 1 week before first class (by bank transfer or by visiting location and meeting with teacher)

Essential Photography Class (The Art of Photography)

Essential Photography Class (EPC1 and EPC2)

Who is concerned?

This course is based on 25 years experience in professional photography and adapted to all student levels from beginner to advanced photographer.

This class is a perfect preparation to join my photographic week-end and my week long photography tours.

This class has to be completed before joining the Advanced Photography Workshop (APW) course.

What does this class cover?

This class is a resume of what you absolutely need to know about photography to improve your technical knowledge, your understanding of camera preset and set up, to quickly solve most common problems (blurry pictures, wrong exposure, wrong focus…), to become more efficient (lens choice, tracking motion, freezing motion, shooting people…), to improve the composition of your images (position, structure, light, 3D feel, lines, Depth of field, set up…), to free your creativity and to improve your picture quality in post production.

What equipment do you need?

You just need a Digital camera with its lens. Compact camera or bridge camera are accepted as long as they offer the same features as DSLR camera in term of manual or semi-auto settings (Mode, ISO, Aperture, Shutter speed…). If you are not sure, contact me prior to the class.

How long does the program last?

10 weeks = 25 hours total with 1 class every week. Each class lasts 2 hours and 30 minutes.

How many students per class?

8 – 10 students

How much does the course cost?

Teaching fee: 3500 RMB per student.

What is the payment procedure?

1000 RMB deposit for enrolment at least 1 month before class starts (bank transfer: information will be sent by contacting me by email)

2500 RMB final payment 1 week before first class (by bank transfer or by visiting location and meeting with teacher)

The goal of this course is to teach the amateur photographer how to think and work like a pro without compromising fun and creativity. This course condenses 25 years of experience as a self-made, freelance photographer in the news, movie, fashion, travel, sports, and advertising industries. 

You will gain more confidence and creative sensitivity as you learn to implement easier and more-efficient methods. 

 

On the technical side, we simplify questions around camera preset and operation, shutter speeds, apertures, focal lengths, exposure and reading histograms. 

On the human side, you will discover some exclusive and constructive advice to anticipate your need, to position yourself, to get in touch with people, to track or freeze motion and to make the most out of your subject. 

 

On the creative side, you will get valuable insights into frame composition, background placement and lighting controls. 

On the whole, you will learn to resolve technical, aesthetic, and conceptual issues whilst being trained to tell a story through a series of images.

Filmmaking Class

 

Course name? 

Film Making Class (FMC)

Who is concerned?

This course is adapted to anyone who is willing to discover how movies are made, to anyone willing to learn the craft prior to his own project. No previous experience and no equipment are needed! Only the willingness to participate in front or behind to the camera is needed. This course is also adapted to all students from the Advanced Photography Workshop (APW) who are willing to learn more about sophisticated lighting set up and the way to tell stories with a camera.

What does this class cover?

This class offers an introduction to story telling, camera types, lighting set up, production reality and script writing. Following this introduction, 3 days are dedicated to the complete shooting of a short film with students participating to its production as assistants and actors. After the shooting, 1 class will cover editing and the last one will be an open Questions and Answers session for everyone to get a complete understanding of the overall project.

What equipment do you need?

Nothing!, except a pen and a notebook to take notes and a small camera or a smart phone to record images of the set up if you wish so. The Short film is completely shot with teacher’s equipment.

How long does the program last?

7 weeks = 25 hours total with 1 class every week. Four classes last 2 hours and 30 minutes. They concern the Introduction to story telling, the understanding lighting and editing plus the participation to an open Q&A session. Three classes last 5 hours. They are dedicated to the Shooting of a short film with the students.

How many students per class?

6 – 10 students

Introduction

 

 Filmmaking Class 

Introduction to visual story-telling technique by filming a short movie. 

Suitable for any student

7 Weeks - 25 hours

 

The goal of this course is to teach anyone interested in film making, documentary or video production how to write a story, to choose the right tools, to control time and budget, to light up a scene, to position the camera, to create motion with it, to direct actors and to complete a project from original ideas to final edit. This course is unique with its mix of fun, creativity and efficiency. One complete short movie will be prepared, produced, shot and edited during the 25 hours of the course. Students will be involved by assisting the crew behind the camera or by acting in front of it. Thus all students will get a global vision of the amount of work and expertise needed to become a film maker. This course is also exceptional as anyone can join without any equipment or any technical knowledge. However, having a complete understanding of photography is a plus to comprehend light and camera set up.
